Bob Nichols
NICHOLS, Robert Edward, 90, of Richmond, died September 25, 2015. He was the son of the late Claire Mansfield and Lee Lochhead Nichols and was a Richmond native.
After entering Virginia Military Institute during World War II, he was called to active duty with the U.S. Army and served with the 95th Division in the European theater of operations. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge for exemplary conduct in action against the enemy. Following the war he earned a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Virginia. He had a long career with Virginia Power.
He was a communicant, former vestryman and junior warden of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church. He is survived by his daughters, Susan N. Ingram of Lilburn, Ga. and Lynn N. Shippee of North Kingstown, R.I.; his son, Craig P. Nichols of Richmond; his sister-in-law, Betty Bond Nichols; five grandchildren, three nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara (Darby) Patton Nichols; and his brother, Col. Lee L. Nichols Jr.
A memorial service will be held at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church, 10627 Patterson Ave., P.O. Box 29626, Richmond, Va. 23242 or the American Parkinson Disease Association.
