Memorial Service for Jean Boynton

Jean Anne Phillips Boynton, peacefully passed away in her home in Richmond on June 7, 2017. She had recently celebrated her 80th birthday and was thankful for her friends and family who shared in her celebration. She will be remembered by all for her dry sense of humor and quick wit. Even with her recent illness and radiation treatments she remained positive and was looking forward to getting back out with friends and family.
She was quite the social butterfly and oftentimes had to ignore her daughters rolling their eyes as she conversed with complete strangers in lines or people sitting at the next table in a restaurant. She never met a stranger, enjoyed lunching and was well-known by the wait staff at her favorite restaurants. Her favorite day of the week was Wednesday for free pie at O'Charley's.
She is survived by her three daughters, Frances Boynton, Sarah Bay (Kevin), Beth Lamothe (Joe); and her two handsome grandsons, Scott Lamothe (eligible bachelor), Michael Lamothe (currently smitten); and her favorite granddaughter, Kim Bay (also smitten); and two grand fur cats, Dolce and Simon. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Tuggle Boynton; and many pets that have greeted her at the Rainbow Bridge.
Jean Anne was born in a hollow (not a branch) in Buchanan County, Virginia on March 9, 1937 to parents, Cordelia and Fred Phillips. She was proud to be a hillbilly, and spent a lifetime researching her family roots before genealogy became popular. From a one-room schoolhouse to Radford College, (graduated 1958 with a teaching degree) she valued education and became a teacher, touching the lives of fourth grade students from Cardwell Elementary School, St. Mary's Catholic School and Amelia Elementary School. Jean was an active and founding member of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, Levisa River DAR, Queen of Red Hats, and Storytellers League.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, June 17, 2017, at 1 p.m., at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church at 10627 Patterson Ave., 23238. Please celebrate Jean's life by wearing red and purple for her service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you support the local economy by going to lunch, conversing with the wait staff and others in line, and leaving a generous tip. Don't forget to order dessert. Donations can be made in Jean's name to your favorite animal rescue group.
