Barbara Chappell Dennis, 79, of Henrico, Va., passed away peacefully in her home of 40 years on Sunday, November 13, 2022. Barbara was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend. Born in Clarksville, Va., Barbara was a graduate of Bluestone High School. She attended Mary Washington College. Barbara was married to Eugene Terry Dennis III and together they shared two children. Barbara was active, outgoing and social throughout her life. She enjoyed several professions, including working at Strange's Florists in Richmond. Barbara was quite knowledgable about horticulture and described her home and yard as "heaven on earth."
She was an active and valued member of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church. Barbara enjoyed welcoming friends and family into her home. Whether it was a holiday meal, game of mahjong or a visit over a cup of coffee, Barbara made everyone feel welcome. She loved animals and could often be found enjoying the birds and wildlife from her back deck. Intelligent and authentic, Barbara had a sharp sense of humor and loved a good conversation. Barbara will be deeply missed by her large family and network of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvah and Martha Chappell; and her sister, Jacqueline Chappell. She is survived by her sister, Marti Harrington; niece, Jacqueline Chappell Miller White; nephew, Robert Morton Miller III; sons, Euguene Terry Dennis IV "Deni" and Christopher Dennis and his wife, Anne; granddaughter, Rebecca Dennis; her fiance, Chandler Harris; and five grandsons, Euguene Terry Dennis V "Teddy," Sam Dennis, Jack Dennis, Cody Dennis and Carter Dennis. A memorial Celebration of Life service for family and friends will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St., Glen Allen, Va. 23060, with the Rev. Michael Cadaret officiating.
